NON-DESTRUCTIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

To guarantee the safe and reliable operation of your installations, we carry out non-destructive testing on request, either in-house or on-site. We detect defects and irregularities in accordance with applicable standards:

  • Visual and dimensional inspection
  • Penetrant testing – PT
  • Ultrasonic testing – UT
  • Magnetic particle testing (carbon steel only) – MT

Our inspectors are certified Level 2 according to BANT EN ISO 9712 and SNT-TC-1A standards. They can also assist you with your quality control operations.

All our equipment (ultrasonic units, electromagnets, UV lamps, lux meters, etc.) is supplied with calibration certificates.

Our products are PMUC compliant, with certificates and validity dates in accordance with requirements.

Our Non-Destructive Testing Methods

Volumetric Testing (On-Site)

Ultrasonic Testing

This inspection method enables the detection of internal defects in all homogeneous materials (welds, bars, shafts, fittings, etc.), thickness measurement of parts, corrosion and erosion detection, as well as the possible presence of liquid inside piping systems.

Chemical Analysis by Spectrometry

This method allows:

  • Verification of material batch consistency and validation of a 3.1 certificate
  • Chemical analysis of all or selected elements on a sample
  • Determination of the base metal characteristics in order to select the most suitable filler metal

This method also provides the percentage composition of each element (iron, carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, nickel, aluminum, cobalt, copper, etc.).

Surface Testing

Penetrant Testing

This surface inspection method (using fluorescent or color contrast products) reveals surface-breaking discontinuities in non-porous materials.

Magnetic Particle Testing

This method detects surface-breaking defects in all ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic particle testing can be carried out using two methods:

  • Contrast products (black and white) for welds or base materials
  • Fluorescent products: this more sensitive method requires a dark environment and is mainly used for the inspection of machined parts or welds

DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

For all destructive testing operations (tensile tests, Charpy tests, flattening tests, intergranular corrosion tests, micrography, etc.), we have developed a privileged partnership with the IEB.Labs laboratory (formerly the Vinçotte mechanical/chemical laboratory), certified ISO 17025.

A major advantage: the laboratory facilities are located directly next to our production site in Bousval.

MATERIAL UPGRADING

Thanks to the many integrated capabilities available on our site (stock, machining, inspections, etc.), we can perform material upgrading operations either to obtain a 3.2 certificate or according to a specific procedure.

As part of our nuclear qualification, we perform material upgrading in accordance with paragraph NCA-4255.5 of the ASME III Division 1 Code.
